Research areas
The primary goal of the research in my laboratory is to provide a better understanding of the neural control of movement with a focus on motor systems of the brainstem and spinal cord. A detailed knowledge of the normal physiology of these systems is required to enable us to understand and ultimately treat neurodegenerative diseases and injuries which can afflict them. My lab's interests extend from the level of ion channels on individual neurons up to entire neuronal networks involved in motor behaviours. We study the physiology and anatomy of motor systems both in their normal 'healthy' state and when they are affected by conditions such as Motor Neuron Disease (MND).
