Pre-payment guide (undergraduate studies)
Do I need to make a pre-payment?
You will be required to make a pre-payment if:
- you have an offer for an undergraduate programme and
- you have a fees status of ‘Overseas’ in your offer letter
Or if:
- you have an offer for the BA International Honours programme regardless of fee status
When is the pre-payment due?
The pre-payment is due only when you have firmly accepted an unconditional offer.
The pre-payment is due within four weeks of the date you formally accept your unconditional offer
If you applied through the Direct Application or Common Application and receive an unconditional offer before Saturday 7 March 2026 your prepayment must be made no later than 12 May 2026.
If you applied through UCAS, please check the UCAS Hub or the UCAS website for the response deadlines that apply to you.
If a pre-payment remains unpaid by the required deadline, this will be taken as an indication that you no longer wish to take up the offer of a place at St Andrews.
Please do not make a pre-payment if:
- you have conditional offer status
- you have accepted St Andrews as your insurance choice (unconditional or conditional offer status)
How much is the pre-payment?
The pre-payment required is £4,000 GBP.
Deferred offer holders
Deferred offer holders are required to pay the pre-payment at the time they accept an unconditional offer for deferred entry. If a pre-payment remains unpaid by the required deadline, this will be taken as an indication that you no longer wish to take up the offer of a place at St Andrews.
How to make a pre-payment
You can:
- pay by international bank transfer (preferred method of payment)
- pay by credit or debit card
Can I obtain a refund for my pre-payment?
Pre-payments will only be refunded under the following circumstances:
- medical reasons for withdrawal evidenced by supporting documentation
- you are not successful in securing a UK student visa
- it is within the 14-day statutory cancellation period during which you can change your mind about accepting an offer to study at the University
Pre-payments are not refunded under any other circumstances.
How do I request a refund?
To request a refund, please complete the pre-payment refund form. The request must be submitted along with any evidence to myapplication@st-andrews.ac.uk no later than 30 days after the official start date of your programme. The start date of your programme is detailed in your offer letter.
Important additional information
You have a 14-day statutory cancellation period during which you can change your mind about accepting an offer to study at the University.
After accepting your place and making the pre-payment, your offer will become a binding agreement with the University of St Andrews. The terms and conditions of this agreement will remain in force for the duration of your studies at the University. Should the University require to make changes that materially affect your programme, the relevant team will inform you.
Please read the University of St Andrews Admissions Policy.
