The School of Modern Languages is committed to creating an environment that supports equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Athena Swan

The Athena Swan Charter is a framework which is used to support and transform gender equality within higher education and research. 

The School of Modern Languages was awarded an Athena Swan Bronze Award in April 2021.

Bullying and harassment

The School of Modern Languages is against any kind of discrimination and harassment on any basis including, but not limited to, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation.

Bullying

Bullying is offensive, intimidating, malicious, or insulting behaviour - or an abuse or misuse of power through means that undermine, humiliate, denigrate, or injure another person.

Harassment

Harassment is unwanted conduct which has the purpose or effect of violating an individual's dignity, or creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating, or offensive environment.

Harassment can happen to anyone, but is often relates to a protected characteristic.

Reporting bullying and harassment

If you need to report or talk with someone about bullying or harassment, please get in touch with either the Director of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion or the Head of School.

Students can also contact Student Services; staff can also contact Human Resources.

You can use Report + Support to report any concerns you have about wellbeing, bullying, discrimination, abuse, assault, or harassment of any sort. You can report anonymously or giving your contact details - if you give your contact details, a member of staff will be able to contact you to help provide support. 

Access and outreach

St Andrews has a diverse and vibrant student community, and students come from a range of backgrounds having achieved a variety of qualifications.
