Management welcomes visiting scholar Tommaso Biagetti
The Department of Management welcomes Tommaso Biagetti as a visiting scholar during Spring 2024.
Tommaso is a PhD researcher in economics and business at the University of Perugia. His research investigates the interaction between social norms and sustainable investments within family firms. His aim is to develop methodologies that can classify decision-making processes in the business sector into clusters by examining how investments in sustainability may be:
- driven by the desire to integrate sustainability into the company's operational dynamics, or,
- solely for obtaining image-related benefits.
At the University of St Andrews, Tommaso is collaborating with Dr Ralitza Nikolaeva on research that explores the external pressures conceptualised as institutional pressures in a sustainability context. They seek to define and measure the business factors that catalyse organisations' sensitivity to these forces. Together, they are refining methodologies to develop and validate a scale designed to measure susceptibility to institutional pressures – a meticulous process crucial for advancing research methodologies and deepening understanding in this field.
Tommaso reports that their joint efforts are making significant progress, as they work to delineate parameters and criteria for sample selection. Through regular discussions and the exchange of ideas, they are moving closer to realising their research goals and acquiring valuable insights into defining and measuring the concept of susceptibility to institutional pressures.
Throughout my time at the University of St Andrews, collaborating with Professor Nikolaeva has opened avenues to expand academic and research networks for me. Interactions with researchers from various esteemed research centres within the Department of Management have provided valuable insights and research suggestions, leading to the initiation of collaborative research projects. Additionally, this exchange has fostered an atmosphere conducive to international collaboration and networking within the academic community.
