Knowledge mobilisation and epistemic injustice
The Research Unit for Research Utilisation (RURU), based in the School of Management, held a workshop in November 2022 titled, Understanding and addressing knowledge equity in knowledge mobilisation.
Three invited speakers made presentations addressing issues of epistemic injustice in their areas of research:
- Anna Numa Hopkins, from NORRAG and University of Warwick, spoke about production and use of academic research and ways of sharing under-represented knowledge.
- Jenna Breckenridge, from University of Dundee, considered health and social care policy and practice.
- Isabella Pistone, from University of Gothenburg, spoke about ‘invisible’ forms of evidence-basing and knowledge use within disability care.
Workshop participants, both researchers and practitioners, took the presentations as starting points for discussions that were deep and wide-ranging. They found agreement in continuing the momentum to generate and pursue concrete steps towards more equitable, inclusive and effective mobilisation of knowledge – in a world that is still characterised by deep cognitive and epistemic injustices.
See the RURU website for a report of the event.
