Toward effective and fair worker monitoring
On Tuesday 25 January 2022, Professor Kirstie Ball from the School of Management will deliver a talk to members of the National Association of Data Protection and Freedom of Information Officers (NADPO) in their lunchtime seminar series. The talk is entitled 'Worker monitoring and surveillance: Psycho-social risks and organisational justice'.
The presentation is based on the findings of Professor Ball's recent report for the Joint Research Council of the European Union, Electronic monitoring and surveillance in the workplace.
The talk will argue that, while data protection is the starting point for governing work monitoring, organisational and data justice conceptions may work in tandem with data protection principles to promote monitoring practice that is both effective and fair.
Professor Ball is director of the the Centre for Research into Information, Surveillance and Privacy (CRISP).
