Research presented to policy makers
Professor Ross Brown presented key research findings to over 100 policy makers from around the world as an invited speaker in a session with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), in December 2021.
The OECD invitation followed the publication of Professor Brown's report commissioned by Scottish think tank Reform Scotland about how Scotland could become a more entrepreneurial and ambitious start-up nation. The report focuses on the types of major systemic changes needed to Scotland's entrepreneurial ecosystem to enact transformative change that could overcome the entrepreneurial deficit confronting the country. According to Professor Brown, "entrepreneurial activity plays a pivotal role in shaping the economic success of countries, yet Scotland's recent entrepreneurial history is one of significant underperformance".
Setting out a number of recommendations, the report has policy implications not only for Scotland but also for other smaller nations.
