Biography

I joined University of St Andrews School of Management in September 2016. Prior to that I was a research fellow in the School of Medicine at the University of Dundee exploring workplace transitions and identity.

My key areas of research and teaching interest are: leadership and identity development; research methods; and equality, diversity and inclusion. I have specific interest in health and social care organisational work. Additionally, I am interested in innovative research methodologies and have expertise in using video-methodologies. I gained my PhD in 2015 with a thesis entitled: 'Conceptualising, narrating and enacting leadership in the inter-professional healthcare workplace: a study of complexity using qualitative methods'. I am principal and co-investigator for several research grants focused on healthcare organisation. More recently I have been working with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the British Academy of Management (BAM) exploring experiences of BAME managers in FTSE 100 companies. This work is in collaboration with an academic team drawn from around the UK.

I have been teaching management subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level since May 2012. I have 15 years' experience of higher education including both online and face to face teaching, assessment and dissertation supervision. Prior to moving to higher education in 2001, I was a physiotherapist, managing teams in both hospital and the community.
