Dr Akinci joined the University of St Andrews as Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Management in July 2014. Prior to that, she was Lecturer in Organisational Behaviour at the University of Surrey's Business School.

Her research is focused on intuition in decision making and organisational learning. She is a regular presenter at major international conferences such as the Academy of Management. Her research has received several awards (most notably the Best Paper Award twice from the British Academy of Management) and has been published in international management journals and edited books.

Dr Akinci received her PhD from the University of Surrey in 2011. In her doctoral research she has undertaken an extensive fieldwork with the senior management teams of police organisations in the UK to investigate their use of intuition in strategic decision making processes, for which she has been awarded the University of Surrey's Researcher of the Year Award.

She holds an MSc in International Business Management from the University of Surrey (as Chevening Scholar) and a BA (Hons) double major in Business Administration and Economics from Trent University (Canada). She attained the Fellow status of the UK Higher Education Academy in 2013.

Her previous career experience includes business development in the finance sector and project management in non-governmental organisations.

Dr Akinci's research interests and expertise encompass decision making, intuition, cognition, top management teams, organisational and managerial learning, organisational change and development.
