Workshop 1 - Finding Literature and Referencing

Audience: First years

Intended Learning Outcomes: 

  • Review primary, secondary and tertiary literature types.
  • Be able to use search tools within a database to find relevant scientific literature.
  • Know why accurate referencing is important.
  • Trial a referencing software and be familiar with library guides and help pages.

Workshop 2 - Writing Methods and Results

  • Know the appropriate language and tenses to be used for methods and discussions sections.
  • Understand what information needs to be included within methods and results.

  • Understand when you would use a figure or a table.
  • Know how to refer to figures and tables in the text.
  • Be able to write appropriate figure and table legends.
