William Hay became a burgess of Stockholm on 5 May 1638. He was a merchant who traded with Danzig. He is probably the father of William [SSNE 147] and Henry [SSNE 2627]according to 'Stockholms Nations Studenter'. His wife was named Ingrid and is noted as a widow in 1659 when Walter Guthrie [SSNE 6446] raises a case against her with regard to her dead husband. However, Svenska Adelns Ättartavlor relates that Henry [SSNE 2627] was the son of Colonel Alexander Hay [SSNE 437], although Curt Haij insists that Alexander died childless. There may have been more than one William Hay jr in Stockholm at the same time. There appears to be no relationship between this William (snr) and Alexander.
