Walter Guthrie emigrated to Sweden from Scotland and became a merchant in Stockholm. This is possibly the brother of James Guthrie [SSNE 3126] who also migrated to Sweden and became a theologian there. If so, Walter was the son of Walter Guthrie and his wife Agnes Greig of Montrose and he would have emigrated before 1614. Walter jr. was involved in a quarrel with his servant, Robert Grey, between 1645-6. He was also engaged in a dispute with the late William Hay's [SSNE795] widow, Ingrid, and against Hans Primerose on 8 October 1659. That year he also had a case against Wilhelm Campen, on 19 November. He married Catharina Joransdotter on 10 March 1644 in St Nicholas church of Stockholm and they had a son called George [SSNE 6271] who was born in 1645, and another called Nicholas [SSNE 7021] who was a painter. On 22 February 1678 two graves were readied at St Nicholas church for Walter's two daughters.
