A William Hay was enrolled at Uppsala University in 1652. It appears that his brother, Henry/Henrik Hay [SSNE 2627], also attended at this time. However there is confusion as to their parentage. 'Stockholms Nations Studenter' relates that William was born in Stockholm in 1642 and studied at Uppsala in 1652, at only ten years old. Svenska Adelns Ättartavlor lists Henry [SSNE 2627] as the son of Colonel Alexander Hay [SSNE 437] whereas 'Stockholms Nations Studenter' relates that he was the son of the merchant William Hay [SSNE 795] who traded with Danzig. This would imply that William jr was also the son of William [SSNE 795]. Equally there may have been two separate individuals with the same name! William jr. is probably the same man who became court master(Hovmastare) at the Stockholm court in 1675 and later served as the regimental secretary to the Royal Guards in 1678.
