Jakob Spalding was the son of the Scot Andrew Spalding [SSNE 6717] who had moved to Mecklenburg in the early seventeenth century. Jakob was born in 1625 and called to Sweden by his uncle, John/Johan [SSNE 4677]. Jakob became a merchant in Gothenburg and then a councillor in Norrkoping in 1649. His name appearedin the Gothenburg shipping registers only for the year 1654 when he sent two loads to England and one load to Scotland. He died on 16 October 1676. Spalding was married twice, first to Ingrid von Brobergen (1636-1663) on 16 September 1653 and secondly to Dorothea Dreijer (d.1723) on 30 November 1664. He had at least three sons and one daughter, Christina (1656-1721) [SSNE 6875]. His sons were Anders (1659-1698) [SSNE 714]; Johan (1669-1738) [SSNE 4926] and George (1671-1726) [SSNE 4814]. In the margin of Svenska Adelns Ättartavlor in Riksarkiv someone has suggested that the merchant Henrik Spalding [SSNE 6107] was also his son. Jakob also had a brother Johan [SSNE 6867] who served as consul in Plau in Mecklenburg
