George Spalding was the second son of Jakob Spalding [SSNE 4813]. He was born in 1671 and his mother was Doreta Martinsdotter Dreijer. Few details are left of his early life, but he eventually became a factory owner at the Gusum brass factory in Ringarms (Ostgothland). Spalding died in 1721. He married Sofia Christoffersson (1685-1767) on 8 May 1704 and they had a child named Gustaf Spalding (1709-1778) who was ennobled as Spaldencreutz. George had two brothers of note, Anders (a half brother)[SSNE 714] and John [SSNE 4926]. He also had a sister called Christina [SSNE 6875] and possibly another brother called Henrik [SSNE 6107] who was a merchant in Norrkoping.
