Text source

Magnus Ronnow arrived in Sweden from Denmark. He was of Scottish origin on his father's side, the son of Magnus Dublar [SSNE 772]. Fischer notes that Sjöstrom in his 'Skanska Nation, Lund, 1897', p.146, seems to doubt the Scottish origin of the Ronnows. However, Riis supports the Scottish link. Magnus Dublar (senior) was a Scottish gentleman who settled at Ronneby as a merchant and town councillor. He had two children. Casten Dublar was born in 1638 and died in 1691. He studied at Strasbourg (1656), Rostock (1659) and Copenhagen the same year. Casten became parson of Aarhus in 1661 and later in Sweden of Almstad and Orebro. He also became a member of the Swedish diet. His brother Magnus was born in the 1630's and later became an officer in the Swedish navy. He married Maria Schmidt of Copenhagen, their grandson Casten Ronnow admitted to Swedish aristocracy 1776. The Dublar's took the name of Ronnow after their native town once they moved to Sweden. A Magnus Ronnow enrolled at Upsalla and another at Lund through the course of 1680. It is almost certain they were the same man, the son or grandson of Magnus Dublar, though of course there is always room for doubt.
