Payment of University scholarships

The University processes scholarships, bursaries and stipends for fees and maintenance for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Tuition fee scholarships

• Tuition fee scholarships are automatically applied to your tuition fees
• You'll see both your tuition fee and your scholarship award listed on your financial statement

Maintenance payments

Maintenance awards help with living costs.

You must be fully registered before any maintenance payments can be paid into your bank account.

How they are paid

• Maintenance awards are paid monthly on the second last working day of each month
• They are paid straight to your UK bank account by BACS
• Payment dates will appear on your financial statement

For example, in March 2026 the last working day of the month is Tuesday 31 March, so your award would be paid to you on Monday 30 March 2026, which is the second last working day of the month.

Updating or adding bank details

• We recommend that you have a UK bank account so that you receive your payments quickly
• You can see full details of upcoming payments by checking your scholarship on MySaint

New bank details and changes to bank details must be submitted through MySaint.

To do this:

• click on the tab My details and development
• choose Student finance
• then choose Manage my bank details for payments of scholarship and expenses

If you don’t have a UK bank account

If you do not yet have a UK bank account the payments can be paid into, email the following information to finschol@st-andrews.ac.uk:

• the account number or IBAN
• SWIFT or BIC
• the name on the account

Please note that international payments may have bank charges or exchange rate charges.

If you live in University accommodation

You can choose to have your maintenance payments paid directly toward your accommodation fees if you live in halls or any other University owned accommodation. You can choose this option during matriculation or email finschol@st-andrews.ac.uk to request it.

Accommodation fee scholarships

• If you live in University accommodation, the award is automatically taken off your accommodation fees.
• Both the fee and the scholarship award appear on your financial statement.
• If you live outside University accommodation, the award is paid to you as a maintenance payment instead.
