Get free access to LinkedIn Learning courses

Updated on: 30 April 2024

Learn how to gain access to LinkedIn Learning courses in business, technology and creative disciplines.

All staff at the University of St Andrews have free access to LinkedIn Learning, a comprehensive online platform offering expert-led video courses in business, technology, and creative disciplines. With professionally produced courses and personalised recommendations, LinkedIn Learning supports continuous professional development across a wide range of subjects.

You can complete courses at your own pace, track your progress, and, if you choose, display completed courses and acquired skills on your LinkedIn profile.

Getting started

To start using LinkedIn Learning, activate your account.

We recommend starting with the introductory course How to use LinkedIn Learning, which will become available once your access is activated.

For technical support or help with activation, refer to:

Accessing LinkedIn Learning

Staff can access LinkedIn Learning for the duration of their employment at the University. Courses are available online and on the free mobile app for Android and Apple devices.

When activating your account, you can choose from the following options:

  • Link your LinkedIn Learning account to your personal LinkedIn profile.

  • Access LinkedIn Learning without linking to a personal LinkedIn profile.

  • Use the platform without having a LinkedIn profile at all.

Linking your profile is optional and can be reversed at any time. You can access LinkedIn Learning with or without a LinkedIn account. Many courses offer certificates, which can be added to your LinkedIn profile if desired.

Benefits of LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning supports a self-directed approach to development and complements the University's existing training provision. Key benefits include:

  • Greater accessibility to training resources.

  • Support for competency-based learning and digital skill development.

  • Alignment with the University’s digital strategy.

  • Enhanced tools for managers and staff to collaborate on personal development plans.

  • Curated learning pathways tailored for St Andrews staff, such as management, leadership, and sustainability.

Privacy and data protection

When you activate LinkedIn Learning, your name and staff status are shared with LinkedIn. If you link your personal LinkedIn profile, the University’s LinkedIn administrators can view your learning activity, including your completed courses, but no other personal LinkedIn data is shared.

You are in control of what information is visible to your LinkedIn network. If you prefer to keep your learning activity private, choose not to link your LinkedIn profile or access the platform without one.

All learning data is securely stored on LinkedIn servers, which may be located both within and outside the UK. More information is available from LinkedIn security and LinkedIn subprocessors. For further details, see:
