Research areas
I am a tropical ecologist with experience in forest management, forest genetics and conservation in Amazonia. My interdisciplinary research combines ecological and social science expertise on tropical peatlands. I monitor changes in floristic composition and forest structure using permanent forest plots and assess perceptions of resource depletion and ecological change in rural communities using interviews. As part of my NERC Knowledge Exchange Fellowship, I am working closely with policymakers to implement strategies and policies to conserve Peruvian peatlands, and with international scientists to increase the impact of peatland research across the tropics. My previous work also involved developing innovative genetic methods to assess the identify of timber species in South America.
