This Door of the Seas
Professor Jo Sharp’s novella, This Door of the Seas (co-written with Val McDermid) has just come out.
The book tells the tale of Scotland’s attempt to found a trading colony in Panama at the end of the 17th century and is written as a series of letters home from Dr James Wallace to his wife and to the first Geographer Royal, who commissioned him to report back on the landscape he found. Jo has been delighted by the interest in the book, and has been interviewed by the Guardian, the Scotsman, and the Sunday Post and appeared on R4 Today Programme last week. The book has had great reviews so far in the Scotsman and List. Jo and Val will be doing various events around the book, starting with the Edinburgh International Book Festival on Monday 17 August. They will be doing an event for Toppings in St Andrews on 14 September.
