Scottish Graduate School of Social Science (SGSSS): Call for postdoctoral fellowship applications

24 March 2026

The School of Geography and Sustainable Development invites applications to the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science’s (SGSSS) call for postdoctoral fellowship applications, for a start in October 2026.

This scheme allows fellows to develop a programme of activities for 9 months, including, but not limited to publications, networking, training, research-related internships, and developing further funding proposals. Fellows typically draw on their PhD research, especially for publications.

Please review the terms and conditions of the call carefully – eligibility criteria include the requirement to have completed a PhD in the UK (or be very near completion).

Full, detailed FAQs are available on the SGSSS website.

To discuss a possible application, we suggest contacting a suitable mentor from the list of academic staff in our School in the first instance.

To apply, please submit your application form (available from the SGSSS website) via e-mail to gsddopg@st-andrews.ac.uk AND matteo.fumagalli@st-andrews.ac.uk  by Thursday 7 May, 3 PM.

Further information is available from the PGR Lead for the School, Dr Christopher Schulz at gsddopg@st-andrews.ac.uk , the SGSSS Dean of Graduate Studies for St Andrews, Dr Matteo Fumagalli at Matteo.Fumagalli@st-andrews.ac.uk or the SGSSS office at team@sgsss.ac.uk
