Live Film Screening: Wunder der Schöpfung and Herschel 36

For the St Andrews Photography Festival, Professor Michael Cowan has arranged a live film screening. On 26th October 7pm at the Byre Theatre, the acclaimed sound duo Herschel 36 provide a live accompaniment of experimental soundscapes that breathe new life into a classic Weimar-era science film. One of the oldest surviving feature-length films about the universe, Wunder der Schöpfung (1926) represents a silent-era precursor to Cosmos (1980/2014). A compendium of the scientific knowledge of the time, the film takes viewers on an imaginary voyage to the edges of the solar system, reflects on Einstein’s relativity theory, speculates on the possible end of the world, and much more.
