Feminist Media Histories issue co-edited by Dr Jessica Mulvogue
Dr Jessica Mulvogue is co-editor (with Allison Whitney, Texas Tech University) of the latest issue of Feminist Media Histories which has a special focus on 'Women of IMAX'. The special issue emerges from a broader collaborative project led by Janine Marchessault in collaboration with researchers Monika Kin Gagnon, Cameron Moneo, Jessica Mulvogue, and Allison Whitney, as well as artist-in-resident, Oliver Husain: Locating Transnational Collaborations in the Early History of Imax Films and Architectures (1970–1990), which is funded by an Insight grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. This issue focuses on the great number of women who they discovered were so important to the history of IMAX cinema.
The issue features articles - including one by Dr Mulvogue: '"The Biggest Dam Movie You Ever Saw": Industrious Women and the Fortifying of Early IMAX' - interviews, and a beautiful zine by the project research team (designed by John Munshour) featuring profiles and photographs of women who have played key roles in the history of IMAX cinema.
The issue also includes SCMS Gender and Feminisms Caucus award-winning essays by Beth Pyner and Leticia Berrizbeitia Añez, and a Corrigendum by Jasmyn Castro.
