Ways of Undoing presents - online screening of video essays
The AHRC-funded project, Ways of Undoing: Craft, Collaboration, and Videographic Practice, has launched an online screening programme: 'Video Essays in the Archive'. The programme, curated by the project team - Lucy Fife Donaldson, Colleen Laird and Dayna McLeod - brings together work made by video essayists from around the world during 'Unthinking the Archive', a week-long workshop in St Andrews and Dundee, July 2026.
Using archival images, sounds, artifacts, films, and fragments as creative material, these participants uncover personal histories, revisit cinematic encounters, explore the hidden labour of filmmaking, and ask what it means to preserve and rediscover the past. Mixing playful experiments with longer works-in-progress, the installation offers a window onto the creative process and the unexpected connections that emerge through the experimental juxtaposition of sound and image.
This is a modified version of the screening programme presented at Dundee Contemporary Arts, 9th September 2026.
The programme features work by: Lily Ford, Nilüfer Neslihan Arslan, Andrew Philip, Ritika Kaushik, Cormac Donnelly, Viktoria Paranyuk, Marilia Kaisar, Charlotte Scurlock, Fahad Naveed, Dayna McLeod, Christian Keathley, John Gibbs, Jiří Anger & Veronika Hanáková, Maksim Selezniov, Alison Peirse, Lucy Fife Donaldson, Colleen Laird.
