Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships – Call for Proposals

6 October 2026

The Department of Film Studies at the University of St Andrews is welcoming applications to the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships Scheme.

The scheme aims to provide career development opportunities for those who are at a relatively early stage of their academic careers, but who have a proven record of research. The expectation is that Fellows should undertake a significant piece of publishable work during their tenure, and that the Fellowships should lead to a more permanent academic position either within the same or another institution.

Candidates interested in applying to the Scheme through the Department of Film Studies should, in the first instance, check the eligibility criteria section on the Leverhulme Trust web page.

If eligible, they should then identify – and contact – an appropriate member of staff to act as a mentor. If the member of staff supports the proposal, then the candidate should request an application form from Professor Tom Rice, Director of Research at filmdor@st-andrews.ac.uk to be submitted by the School’s internal competition deadline, which is 4pm UK time, 26 October 2026.
