Dr María Aimaretti, St Andrews Global Fellow, to join the Department in September

31 July 2025

The Department of Film Studies and the St Andrews Institute for Gender Studies are delighted to welcome St Andrews Global Fellow Dr María Aimaretti in September. This scheme continues the University's longstanding tradition of attracting brilliant minds from around the world for short visits to this historic intellectual hub in Europe.

Dr Aimaretti is a lecturer in the History of Latin American and Argentine Cinema at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA) and a researcher at CONICET (the Argentine National Scientific and Technical Research Council). During her visit, she will conduct a research project titled "Global Feminist Methods/Local Interventions: Towards a Non-androcentric Historicisation of Argentine Cinema", working in close collaboration with Dr Isabel Seguí. As part of her activities at St Andrews, she will deliver a talk about Annemarie Heinrich, the most prominent photographer during the classical industrial period of Argentine sound cinema, a key figure in the cultural industry between the 1930s and the 1950s.
