Staff present at NECS annual conference 2025
Staff from the Department presented their current research at the recent annual conference of NECS: European Network for Cinema and Media Studies, which hosted by Lusófona University in Lisbon, 18th-21st June, 2025. The theme of this year’s conference was 'Discovering / Uncovering: navigating the complexities of Screen Media'.
Staff presenting their work included:
- Professor Glyn Davis: 'Looking for Fire Island' (as part of a panel Navigating the Queer and Trans Archive: Strategies of Recovery, with collaborators on his JPICH-funded project: Perverse Collections: Building Europe's Queer and Trans Archives)
- Dr Tyler Parks: 'A Community of Trees': Wilderness Parks, New Deal Films, and Arboreal Nationalism'
- Dr Viviane Saglier: 'De-centralization, Development, and Remediation in Les Deux Écrans'
- Dr Philippa Lovatt: 'Sonic materiality and ambience in Som Supaparinya's Electricity Generation Series'
Professor Davis and Dr Lovatt also chaired panels on ecocriticism and archives in artists moving image, and alternative histories of the experimental film archive.
Also presenting was PhD alumna, Lucy Szemetová (teaching fellow at University of Edinburgh) with a paper titled 'Discovering Contested Histories. Remixing the films of the BM studio'.
