GSSN event: Gundermann screening discussion and performance with Andreas Dresen and David Robb

The first in a series of German Screen Studies Network events supported by a three-year DAAD Promoting German Studies Grant organized by Dora Osborne (Modern Languages) and Paul Flaig (Film Studies), a screening and performance were held at the University of Limerick and Bell Table Theatre in April 2025 devoted to East-German singer-songwriter and excavator operator Gerhard Gundermann.

The acclaimed filmmaker Andreas Dresen travelled to Limerick for a screening of his film GUNDERMANN, followed by a Q&A with Dresen and singer/songwriter and Reader in Music David Robb (Queen’s, Belfast), who translated Gundermann’s songs into English. Robb and his band then performed their “Post-Industrial Songs of Gerhard Gundermann” in the Belltable, and Dresen joined the band for a couple of songs in German.
