20 May 2025

Dr Patrick Adamson was nominated for "Outstanding Teacher (Arts/Divinity)" in the University’s 2025 annual Teaching Awards for his work as lecturer and convenor on FM2003: Screen Cultures Today, as well as a student advisor.

The nominating student commended Dr Adamson’s teaching style, noting that his lectures use a variety of material "clips, quotes, interviews, archival film footage - that are well-curated and keep viewers engaged with the subjects being discussed... my peers and I genuinely look forward to attending them", while creating a supportive atmosphere in tutorials: "He poses thoughtful questions to the group and employs creative activities and viewing materials. He also shares his in-depth passion for and knowledge of film studies with the group".  They also noted his attention to the student experience and wellbeing through clear communication and availability: "He thoroughly explains assessment expectations as well, helping to reduce stress surrounding assessment. He makes himself available to answer questions and address concerns about assessments through prompt email responses or meeting with students outside of class time."

The whole Department congratulates Dr Adamson for this very well-deserved recognition of his excellent teaching and commitment to supporting students at all levels.
