Launch for major new book on George Hoyningen-Huene
This week sees the publication of a major new book on the photographer George Hoyningen-Huene from Thames & Hudson: George Hoyningen-Huene: Photography, Fashion, Film. The book will be launched with an event at the V&A in London on Wednesday 27th March, featuring a discussion between V&A curator Lydia Caston, Condé Nast Corporate Photography Director Ivan Shaw and the book's editor and curator of the George Hoyningen-Huene estate archive Susanna Brown.
The book features a chapter by Dr Lucy Fife Donaldson, which focuses on Huene's time in Hollywood, where he worked as colour consultant on thirteen films, beginning with A Star is Born (Cukor, 1954) and ending with A New Kind of Love (Shavelson, 1963). Huene was also credited for title design, costume design and 'technical advisor on theatre scenes'. The chapter draws on archival research undertaken at the Margaret Herrick and UCLA libraries, supported by a British Academy/Leverhulme small grant in 2022. Aside from Dr Donaldson's video essay work on Huene, this chapter will be the first publication which focuses on Huene's film work.
