Aurora’s Sunrise: Discussion Guide for POV

Dr Leshu Torchin wrote a discussion guide for the film Aurora’s Sunrise (Inna  Sahakyan, 2023) at the request of American television’s longest running showcase for independent nonfiction films, POV, which screens these selections on PBS.

These guides are designed to help a wide range of audiences think more deeply about issues in a film, and to help educators and activists  that film for teaching and/or taking action.

Drawing on her expertise on genocide and media activism and her research into the Armenian genocide, this guide offers accessible (non-academic) historical and cultural background, overviews of the activist campaigns (and their use of media) at the time, reflections on animation in documentary, and discussion prompts.
