Sight & Sound best video essays of 2023
Dr Lucy Fife Donaldson had two video essays included in the Sight & Sound best video essays of 2023 list, chosen by video essayists, scholars and curators from around the world. Included were an audiovisual essay on the colour designs of George Hoyningen-Huene, ‘Isn’t that going to be awfully dull and drab?? George Hoyningen-Huene’s use of neutrals’, which was published in [in]Transition: Journal of Videographic Film & Moving Image Studies and draws on research funded by the British Academy, and a video exploring ASMR foley, ‘Kiss me softly | crackly | sharply’ which was made for a workshop on foley sound at the University of Oxford and is part of an ongoing collaborative project with sound designer Julie Rose Bower.
