Biography

I received my BA from the University of York, my MA in Writing for Performance from Goldsmiths College and my PhD from the University of Nottingham. I have bee awarded a visiting fellowship from the Käte Hamburger Centre for Apocalyptic and Postapocalyptic Studies at the University of Heidelberg, and have lectured at the Universities of Lincoln and Nottingham, De Montfort and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. I joined St Andrews in 2015.

Research areas

I specialise in contemporary literature and drama, with particular interests in the extremities of human experience, eco-criticism, storytelling and philosophies of history. 

My first monograph theorised crisis and emergency narratives relating to terrorism, migration and suicide, and my second explored the ways that contemporary apocalyptic film, theatre, video games and literature test out the possibilities of human extinction. 

I am currently working on two edited collections about British end of the world fiction and a third monograph about constructions of childhood in fictions of the Anthropocene.
