Our Many-Voiced Country
Dr Peter Mackay of the School of English will be taking part in three events at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, in his role as Scottish Makar.
The first of these, 'Our Mother Tongues', curated by Dr Mackay on Monday 11th August, features six poets reading poems they have written in response to each other, in English, Gaelic, Scots, Macedonian, Spanish and Italian dialect. Performing will be current and past students - Roshni Gallagher, Colin Bramwell, Gabriela Milkova-Robins - alongside Niall O'Gallagher, Anne Pia and Andrés N. Ordorica.
Then on Tuesday 12th October Dr Mackay will be running a workshop on translation (including on the ethics of working from minoritised languages), and doing an in conversation event with Dr Sam Tongue.
