PGRs present at BACLS conference

21 July 2025
Two School of English doctoral students recently attended the British Association for Contemporary Literary Studies (BACLS) What Happens Now? conference, held at the University of Stirling from 10 to 12 June 2025. The event brought together scholars from across the UK and beyond to explore recent developments in contemporary literary studies and served as a great opportunity to meet fellow doctoral researchers and senior academics.

As well as chairing a panel on 'Neoliberalism and the Novel', final-year candidate Sandro Eich presented a paper titled '"Her duty to her country was done. Now she could do duty to her conscience": Whistleblowing and Neoliberalism in Matthew Richardson's The Scarlet Papers (2023).' Fourth-year candidate Connor McGrath contributed with a presentation entitled 'Caledonian, Crossed with the Tennysonian: War, Identity, and Form in Douglas Dunn’s "Dressed to Kill"'.
