This VIP has been shaped by students and will deliver a better outcome for the University, our community and the environment.

  • Join academics, practitioners and our neighbours to plan, implement and monitor the forest. Our team includes Professor Bill Austin (SGSD), David Toy (Manager, St Andrews Forest), Alistair Macleod (Transition University of St Andrews) and Dr Emma Kallblad (Office of the Principal).
  • Join a start-up VIP with a practical purpose (including field trips) that focuses on project deliverables.
  • Multidisciplinary elements: Sustainability, Climate, Ecology, Management
  • Suitability for student involvement: innovative, entrepreneurial, action and fun!

Main research question:

  • what are the climate mitigation opportunities for the St Andrews Forest – how do the stacked benefits of a forest contribute to the University’s wider sustainability objectives?

Outputs:

  • A commissioned report (and group presentation) to the University’s Environmental Sustainability Board.
