Key information about the Moodle component of your module for the 2021/2 AY
This guidance applies to modules that have been rolled over by the technology enhanced learning team in the digital learning environment.
-
If your School asked us to copy the content from the previous run of the module and the module has run before, your Moodle module will contain teaching content.
If your School asked us not to do this or the module is new and has never run before, you have been given a blank Moodle module in the default format (collapsed topics or the template set by your School).
-
Activities and resources in the overview/general area at the top of your Moodle module are hidden at the individual level if present. The sections under this and any content they contain are hidden at the section level. Students cannot see existing teaching materials in the Moodle module, if present, until you click ‘Show’ in the respective ‘Edit’ menu.
Students can see introductory text in the overview/general area at the top of your Moodle module if present. Please resolve any inaccuracies in this text as quickly as possible. Alternatively, you may wish to temporarily replace the introductory text with an informative statement or remove it for the time being.
-
A new accessibility tool called Blackboard Ally has been switched on for your Moodle module at rollover. The Ally integration focusses on making digital course content more accessible. It does this by indicating where accessibility issues exist, guiding you to solve them, and allowing students to download documents in alternative formats.
The main differences you will notice are that icons are now present next to your resources in the Moodle module, and that an Accessibility Report is now available to you in the left-hand panel. Students cannot see the accessibility scoring information Ally provides to staff in the Moodle module, only the alternative formats icon is visible to them.
Read the blog post for a quick explanation of the new functions available with Ally. Instructor and student guidance on using Ally is available via the vendor website.
-
The Panopto module folder for your Moodle module has now been created. It is ready for you to start adding your teaching recordings to and has been linked to your Moodle module. There are 3 items in your Moodle module that relate to the integration with Panopto. Please do not adjust or change the settings of these items as this may impact the configuration.
If you have links/embeds to videos held in the 2020/1 Panopto module folder on your Moodle module page, these will not work for the 2021/2 cohort of students. Remember to adjust or replace these so they point to recordings in the 2021/2 Panopto module folder. If you intend to re-use recordings from the previous year, you will need to copy these into the new Panopto module folder first and publish them when ready.

The following guidance applies to SITS modules that are part of the core curriculum.
- Students will begin to gradually enrol onto your module as their module choices are confirmed during advising. Students enrol automatically and you do not need to do anything for this to occur.
- If your module has run before and your School asked us to copy over the module level staff from the last run, the staff members associated with the module, including you, will have access to the module automatically.
- If your School asked us not to copy over the module level staff from the last run or your module is new and has never run before, you will gain access to the module once the staff list in the MMS component of your module has been populated by your School.
- Once a student or staff member appears in the respective list in the MMS component of the module, it takes approximately 30 minutes for them to sync down to the Moodle component of the module.
Enrolment onto non-SITS modules occurs via alternative methods and may require intervention at the School level or be facilitated by the TEL team.
