Classification of undergraduate degrees
Various classification schemes are used for the different types of degree:
- Honours degrees are classified as First Class, Second Class (Division 1), Second Class (Division 2) or Third Class. See: Classification Policy
- General degrees are classified as Distinction, Merit or Pass. See: Classification Policy
Honours classification algorithm
The University applies a common algorithm for the calculation of the award of all Honours classifications. Degrees are classified using a credit-weighted mean and median calculation of grades achieved for Honours-level modules (3000 level and above) taken during an approved Honours programme.
