EPSRC Funding

October 2009

A joint project between the University of Dundee and the University of St Andrews has been awarded funding by EPSRC to develop hybrid polymer suitable for biomagnetic retraction for endoscopic surgery. Led by Prof Sir A. Cuschieri (University of Dundee), this successful funding application also highlights the strong interactions between the School of Physics and Astronomy (Dr Pascal Andre, OSC) and the School of Chemistry (Dr Gordon Florence).

American Chemical Society Meeting

August 2009

At the American Chemical Society's 238th meeting (Washington DC, USA) there was an opportunity to present two different research projects carried out by the OSC jointly between the School of Physics and Astronomy and the School of Chemistry. Two oral presentations were given at the Division of Colloid & Surface Chemistry and they reported on our findings related to a- Syntheses of In/InN Core/Shell nanoColloids, and b- Hybrid Organic-Inorganic Photoluminescent POSS Dentritic Materials: Chromophore Confinement.

Papers make most downloaded lists

25th February 2009

Papers from our group have shown significant popularity, pushing towards the top of download lists. Our work on an LED pumped polymer laser, published in Applied Physics Letters was one of the top twenty downloaded articles for the journal in the month after its publication. Our work on ultrafast photophysics, published in the Journal of Physical Chemistry A has also attracted attention, becoming a featured graphical abstract as well as featuring in the top ten downloaded articles in the one and tweleve month lists.

Royal Society Funding

January 2009

Dr Pascal Andre (OSC-St Andrews) and Dr Jean-Charles Ribierre (RIKEN-Wako, Japan) have been awarded "International Joint Project" funding by the Royal Society. This financial resource will run between 2009 and 2011 and covers travel and subsistence expenses for the 2 researchers to visit each others institutions and advance a research project aiming to better understand and develop solution-processed organic-inorganic memory transistors.
