The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits are half the value of SCOTCAT credits.

The module is meant for students who have higher or A-level Italian or equivalent. (Students without such qualification in Italian but with some knowledge of the Italian language may gain access to the module subject to the successful completion of a departmental assessment).

Module description

The module aims to improve, revise and consolidate the language skills of the students in the four areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing at B1 level (intermediate) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe. In order to achieve these aims, it will provide grammar classes; oral and aural language classes; practice of reading comprehension; writing; and cultural analysis. The emphasis will be on 1. consolidation of language skills, and the deepening of the knowledge of language and structures; and 2. deepening students' understanding of elements of Italian culture. The module is meant for students who have higher or A-level Italian or equivalent. (Students without such qualification in Italian but with some knowledge of the Italian language may gain access to the module subject to the successful completion of a departmental assessment).

TO TAKE THIS MODULE, STUDENTS MUST HAVE AT LEAST A-LEVEL ITALIAN (OR EQUIVALENT). STUDENTS WITHOUT THIS QUALIFICATION BUT WITH SOME KNOWLEDGE OF ITALIAN MAY BE ADMITTED, SUBJECT TO THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A DEPARTMENTAL TEST/ASSESSMENT.
