Module description

This module addresses the need for leaders(-to-be) to be able to consider how they address their self-awareness and self-development in order to cope with the challenges and vulnerabilities inherent in a leadership position in the context of irreducible uncertainty brought on by geopolitical tensions, disruptive technologies and climate change. All of these factors make the challenges that leaders face hard to predict in any precise way, other than the fact that they will be demanding and require resilience and wisdom. To prepare for these challenges, the module focuses on self-knowledge and resilience. It does so by taking students through a framework that builds on reflexive practice at embodied, emotional, thoughtful and relational levels. The module is built around a core text specially written for this purpose as well as engaging with the latest research in the field.

  • By the end of the module, students will be able to begin to develop an approach to leadership that builds on their self-knowledge through a focus on identity work.
  • By the end of the module students will be able to understand how to use personal identity narratives to support wider organizational narratives, that help to lead organizations through uncertainty.
