Module description

This module explores the history of the fascist era through the study of a range of different creative forms including fiction, architecture, popular music, and the visual arts. There will be a particular focus on cinema (comedies, melodrama, historical epics, documentary) the art form that Mussolini called Fascism’s ‘strongest weapon’. We use these different cultural forms as prisms through which to investigate issues relating to national identity, colonialism, power and violence, resistance, and the construction and rejection of ideals of masculinity and femininity.
