The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits are half the value of SCOTCAT credits.

Module description

This module aims to extend students' ability in the core reading and writing skills required for success in an academic context. Topics, texts and tasks, as in the semester 1 module IE0102 Research and Writing for Business 1, will be closely related to aspects of Business in order to ensure that the continued development of students' language and skills is set within the context of the academic disciplines that they are most likely to go on to study at undergraduate level. In addition, students will be introduced to the nature of academic research skills to develop their ability to engage more effectively with academic research both receptively and productively.

Intended learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate an understanding of a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning in texts relating to the fields of management, economics and finance (or other chosen academic subjects) (CEFR C1)

  • Work with knowledge that is embedded in the main theories, concepts and principles of students’ chosen academic subjects (SCQF7.1)
