The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. Module description

Students will continue to acquire Chinese characters (around 900 characters and 2,000 words) while studying more complex texts and enhancing their reading, writing, and spoken language skills. The lectures in this module focus on the creation of China as a nation-state, in which all the country's citizens were called upon to invest in a common cultural, social and political vision, and which is a recent and still ongoing process.

Intended learning outcomes

  • understand normal speed basic dialogues and monologues on some socio-cultural and everyday life topics
  • express themselves in short sentences with some idiomatic phrases. Their speech will be approaching natural speed
  • recognise and use 900 characters or around 2,000 words and read short passages
  • compose simple prose on everyday and socio-cultural issues
  • have a deeper knowledge and understanding of Chinese culture and society
