SCOTCAT credits

The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits are half the value of SCOTCAT credits.

The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) provides an indication of the complexity of award qualifications and associated learning and operates on an ascending numeric scale from Levels 1-12 with SCQF Level 10 equating to a Scottish undergraduate Honours degree.

Module description

This course will typically focus on three main periods of European history: The reformation, the Enlightenment and the French Revolution to the Congress of Vienna. Students will be introduced to historiography and how to research and evaluate the validity of a range of sources. They will be expected to retain factual information as well as to complete homework research tasks, taking an analytical approach towards the key themes covered. After completion of this course, students should be able to: - Recognise the importance of sources in History - Have an awareness of the need to question the validity or otherwise of sources - Have an awareness of the connections between the Reformation era to the era of the French Revolution

  • - Construct a clear, coherent, well-supported argument based on primary and secondary sources (CEFR B2; SCQF6.4)
  • - Implement feedback received on formative assessments on the final exam (SCQF7.5)
