SCOTCAT credits

The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits are half the value of SCOTCAT credits.

Module description

An individual research project which allows the student to pursue in depth a topic of personal interest. The student works largely independently of supervision and has the opportunity to demonstrate individuality, initiative and creativity. Skills of planning and executing research are learnt, as well as the ability to work independently, and present the results orally and in dissertation form. BSc Geology dissertation projects include a minimum of 18 days independent geological mapping.

Weekly contact

The module includes one introductory lecture followed by weekly supervisory meetings organised by the student and their advisor. One student presentation and one mock interview.
