Postgraduate fees and funding

Postgraduate students can find information on fees and funding options in this section.

Your tuition fees will depend on your fee status and the degree you are applying for.

In addition to tuition fees, you will need to cover the cost of your accommodation and everyday living, including food, travel and laundry. You should also set aside an allowance for books, equipment, field trips, and other fees.

Your offer of a place for postgraduate study does not guarantee financial support. However, the University of St Andrews offers many postgraduate scholarships each year, and other funding options may be available.

The University of St Andrews will assess your fee status when you make an application to study with us.

Your fee status is determined by your settled status (for example, your nationality or your visa status in the UK) and your country of residence. This will determine the tuition fee you will pay for your programme.

We make fee status decisions in line with the Scottish fee status legislation.

At postgraduate level, there are two fee status categories:

  • Home (UK and Islands)
  • Overseas.

If we do not have enough information in your application to be able to assess your fee status, we will ask you to complete our fee status questionnaire. Your application cannot be considered until you have provided us with sufficient information to be able to assess your fee status.

You can find more information in our Fee Status Policy.

If you want to find out more information about fee status regulations and the definitions of fee status terms, you can visit the UKCISA (UK Council for International Student Affairs) website.
