What is '2A'? ............ 2A is a short (~20-30aa) sequence which can be used to link two (or more) proteins together in a single, long, open reading frame - a self-processing polyprotein. Multiple proteins can be co-expressed from a single promoter. What can it be used for? ...........expression of heteromultimers, introduction of biochemical pathways, co-expression with selectable markers, etc. etc. What about protein targeting? .......... Both co- and post-translational signal sequences can be inserted anywhere into the polyprotein. Internal signal sequences are functional. What organisms does it work in? ........... All eukaryotic organisms tested to date: mammalian, insect, plant, fungi and yeast cells. Have other laboratories used this technology? ......... 2A has been used successfully in many other laboratories resulting in over 200 publications - visit this link
