Course information
Get to grips with researching historical newspapers in this hands-on session. You'll be introduced to the newspaper archives available via the Library, learn how to navigate Gale British Library Newspapers and construct effective search strategies, and pick up tips for tackling the quirks of newspaper research — from full page vs. article availability to using the right terminology for the period you're studying.
This session takes place in the Teaching Room, Level 1, Main Library, North Street.
Aims and objectives
At the end of this session you will be able to:
- Understand the range of historical newspaper databases available to you
- Know how to structure your search, for example using specific fields and filters
