Need up-to-date news content for an assignment or project? This session shows you how to use Factiva and Nexis, two key databases for current news, and how to structure your searches with specific fields and filters to get the most relevant results. You'll also learn about other current news sources in the Library, such as the Financial Times and The Economist, for coverage these databases might miss.
This class will take place in the Teaching Room, Level 1, Main Library, North Street.
Aims and objectives
At the end of this session you will be able to:
- Understand the purpose and primary functionality of news aggregator databases such as Factiva and Nexis
- Know how to structure your search in Factiva and Nexis in order to yield the most relevant results, for example using specific fields and filters
- Appreciate which news sources may not be covered by these databases, and additional sources within the library which may be used e.g. Financial Times, the Economist
